The Release Of Emily Harris’s Film “Carmilla” Is Postponed

There is a new film adaptation of Carmilla in the works, directed by Emily Harris and featuring a talented cast that includes Devrim Lingnau, Hannah Rae, and Jessica Raine. Something interesting has happened recently, and that's why we're here to discuss this exciting romantic vampire movie.

The Release Date

The release date has been delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

So we will have to be patient before we can discover the film directly adapted from the novel of the same name written by Sheridan Le Fanu in 1671.

"Carmilla" had its world premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival on June 28, 2019.

The release date was initially April 3, 2020 in the UK, but now the movie is planned for October 16, 2020. A virtual release is also planned on October 19, 2020.

And you should know that Film Movement has already acquired the distribution rights for Carmilla for the United States.

The Story Of "Carmilla" By Emily Harris

The story takes place in the United Kingdom in the 18th century. Lara (Hannah Rae) lives in the family manor isolated from the rest of the world with her father, Mr. Bauer, and her strict governess, Miss Fontaine (Jessica Raine).

Lara spends her days trying to escape boredom until one day a young woman (Devrim Lingnau) is involved in a car accident near the mansion.

Lara immediately falls under the spell of the young woman who has taken refuge in the house and who claims to have lost her memory. Lara is naming her Carmilla.

A relationship ensues between the two young women that frightens Miss Fontaine and attracts her at the same time. One feels a certain jealousy towards Lara who, unlike Miss Fontaine, can live her lesbian sexuality openly.

Although the film is based on a tale of vampirism, writer/director Emily Harris only suggests vampirism here without developing it. Nevertheless, the good old Gothic atmosphere of the story is fully preserved. The manor that keeps many secrets and in which the story takes place brings this atmosphere to the forefront. So, even if you have read the original novel, Harris’ adaptation shouldn’t disappoint you.
