Lesbian politicians are becoming more and more visible in the public eye. There are now many openly lesbian politicians who are making a difference in their communities. Here is a list of some of the most inspiring lesbian elected officials who are changing the world for the better.
Tina Kotek announced her intention to run for governor in 2022. This is a landmark moment for the LGBTQ community in Oregon. If elected, she would become the first openly gay person to be elected governor in the United States.
In a stunning victory, Rebecca Maurer has become the first LGBTQ person elected to Cleveland city council. This is a monumental accomplishment for the LGBTQ community and for Ward 12 residents who have now elected someone who represents them faithfully. As a member of the LGBTQ community, Rebecca Maurer knows the importance of equality for all and will work tirelessly to ensure that all residents of her ward are treated fairly. She has seen firsthand the negative consequences of Ohio's 2004 ban on same-sex marriage and the positive effects after Cleveland approved a nondiscrimination ordinance. With her election, Ward 12 residents can be confident that their voices will be heard and that their interests will be represented on city council.

Kris Mayes made history as Arizona's first openly lesbian Attorney General, a landmark moment for LGBTQ+ representation in politics. Her unexpected win in a closely contested race against a well-known Republican candidate, backed by former President Donald Trump, was significant. Her impressive career journey, from valedictorian at Arizona State University to roles in journalism, the Arizona Corporation Commission, and Arizona State University, reflects her commitment to justice and leadership. Kris Mayes' victory marks a step toward inclusivity, making her Arizona's second female Attorney General, the third openly lesbian state-level Attorney General in the US, and the second openly LGBTQ+ person elected to a statewide office in Arizona!
