NBC’s “Weakest Link” game show, hosted by Jane Lynch, was recently renewed for a third season.
“This represents an exciting new chapter for us and for the millions of fans around the world who have rallied behind ‘Weakest Link’ over the years: a fresh opportunity to take the series to new heights this season by collaborating with the one and only Jane Lynch whose razor-sharp wit is the perfect match for the fastest and fiercest game show on TV,” said Valerie Bruce, general manager of BBC Studios Los Angeles Productions that produces the show in association with Universal Television Alternative Studio. “We’re thrilled to continue our partnership with NBC on the hit series that puts your smarts and your speed to the ultimate test.”
Jointly produced by BBC Studios Los Angeles Productions and Universal Television Alternative Studio, "Weakest Link" is a competitive game show featuring eight strangers collaborating to secure the highest cash prize. The show's concept is derived from a British format distributed by BBC Studios, which has been broadcast on both BBC Two and BBC One, as well as adapted in 46 additional territories. Contestants respond to general knowledge questions and forming chains of consecutive correct answers greatly increase the chain's value. However, incorrect answers break the chain, and participants must begin anew with the lowest amount of money. The game revolves around forming chain while incorrect answers reset progress. At the end of each round, contestants vote to eliminate the player they perceive as the weakest link.
The show's been a big hit for NBC this season. The network says it reached over 17 million viewers across linear and digital platforms, which is an improvement over NBC’s Monday 10 p.m. time slot during the summer.
“I’m very much looking forward to a third season of mocking contestants and encouraging discord,” Lynch said.
“Weakest Link” season 3 will feature 20 episodes. That is a significant increase from the 13 episodes that made up season 2. Production is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2022. They didn't announce any release date for now, but it looks like fans will have plenty to look forward to!
