Michele Rayner, a Democratic representative hailing from St. Petersburg and the sole lesbian member in the Florida legislature, is gearing up to fight for marriage equality.

At 55, Laurie Jinkins became the first woman and also the first lesbian Speaker of the Washington House of Representatives. Elected last year, she took office on January 14, 2020. She succeeds Representative Frank Chopp.

Tina Kotek declared her bid to become the next governor in 2022, with a view to serving the state of Oregon.
