Vladimir Putin Reminds That He Isn’t The President Of LGBTQ People

Vladimir putin press conference 2020

Russia is anti-LGBTQ as you know. The anti-LGBTQ “propaganda” law adopted in 2013 prevents any public existence of our community without fear of arrests and there is increasing violence against LGBTQ+ people.

President Vladimir Putin recently held a press conference, as there may soon be changed in the Russian constitution. They mentioned LGBTQ rights during this conference, and this is what they said:

Regarding Marriage Equality

A journalist asked President Putin whether he intended to “add a line in the constitution defining marriage as a union between a man and a woman,” which would prohibit equal marriage at a higher level.

We need only to think in what phrases and where to do this,” Putin replied, confirming the plan to ban marriage equality in the constitution.

On Equal Adoption

Although the question didn't concern adoption by same-sex couples, he then added to be opposed to the mention of a “parent number 1” and a “parent number 2” on birth certificates.

As long as I’m president this will not happen,” he said. “There will be a dad and mum.

As long as he’s president... Might as well say it won’t change anytime soon. Officially, Putin will be Russia’s president until 2024, since he can’t serve three consecutive terms.

But we already know that either he will then become Prime Minister and his puppet will take over as President until Putin can be President again and so on; or he will change the constitution to allow him to serve consecutive presidential terms.
