We Keep LGBTQ+ Women & Girls Up-To-Date
The U.S. Embassy in the Vatican is making a stand for LGBTQ rights as fundamental human rights and commemorating LGBTQ Pride Month with the display of a rainbow flag.
After four years without seeing the U.S. government celebrate Pride Month, Trump prohibited embassies from flying a rainbow flag, it felt good to have a supportive administration again.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken officially permitted a rainbow flag to be flown on the front of U.S. embassies and consulates around the world from the beginning of the year.
So now we have our LGBTQ Pride flag flying in the wind in the middle of the Vatican. And it will be in place throughout the month.
“The United States respects the dignity and equality of LGBTQI+ people. LGBTQI+ rights are human rights,” the embassy stated on Twitter.
President Biden also stated that “Pride is both a jubilant communal celebration of visibility and a personal celebration of self-worth and dignity.”
In his statement released on June 1, 2021, entitled “Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Pride Month, 2021,” he praised the Supreme Court’s decisions to recognize marriage for same-sex couples as a legal right and to allow federal civil rights protections against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in the workplace, before calling on Congress to pass the Equality Act that would bring comprehensive protection for LGBTQ people against discrimination, and not just in the workplace.
Something tells me that this year we’re going to see a lot of rainbow flags.
