Easyjet And AirCanada Implement Inclusive Greetings

Easyjet is a low-cost airline that has recently reviewed the way they welcome their passengers. It must be said that all these greetings were addressed to binary people. But that was before.

Easyjet has reviewed the way a crew addresses passengers to be more inclusive.

Last August, Dr. Andi Fugard, a transgender senior lecturer at the University of London had noted greetings were only binary. In a tweet to the airline, he expressed his frustration and sense of exclusion.

EasyJet had responded by saying:

“At EasyJet, we do not discriminate against any individual—passengers or staff members. We are a pan-European airline with the aim of connecting people of all nationalities across Europe so there is certainly no room in our organization for discrimination of any kind.”

Regarding the introduction of inclusive language and gender-neutral greetings, the airline also said:

“It’s something we’ll take on board and pass to the relevant teams. We have a wide program of work currently ongoing in diversity and inclusion and it’s an area we are committed to focusing on.”

One would have thought Easyjet would not do anything more, but on the contrary, the company announced the roll-out of inclusive greetings a few months later.

No more “Ladies and Gentlemen”, make way for “Welcome Everyone”!

AirCanada did the same two months ago by removing the binary terms and replacing them with gender-neutral ones.

Here are two airlines already taking a step towards greater inclusion! A simple way to welcome everyone.
