A Look At The Record Number Of LGBTQ+ Nominations At The 2023 Golden Globes

The 2023 Golden Globes list of film and TV awards.

The Golden Globe Awards are coming up and this year they have a record number of LGBTQ+ nominees!

This year, we have a reason to truly celebrate. With an unprecedented milestone in terms of LGBTQ+ representation in the entertainment industry, on the eve of the Golden Globe Awards, it is clear that our fight for diversity and acceptance has not been in vain. We can take pride in knowing that those voices are being heard and having a tremendous impact. As we witness these times of celebration, we understand even more how important representation is and use this as motivation to continue advocating for these vital messages. But not everything has always been perfect with the Golden Globes.

The Cancellation Of The 2022 Golden Globe Awards

The Golden Globe Awards have been a fixture in televisions and awards ceremonies for the past 26 years. And yet, 2022 was different. Controversy and mounting questions about the lack of diversity and inclusivity of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association alongside allegations of financial corruption reached a boiling point, which seemed to leave NBC with no option but to cancel their coverage of the awards entirely. Thankfully, swift reforms were made that opened membership to more Black voices, allowing the HFPA to restore enough trust for NBC to bring back their coverage of the well-loved ceremony. It just goes to show that with positive change can often come rapid results.

“We recognize the HFPA’s commitment to ongoing change and look forward to welcoming back the Golden Globes to NBC for its landmark 80th anniversary in January 2023,” Frances Berwick, NBC Universal Television and Streaming’s Chairman of Entertainment Networks, said in a statement.

That said, movie and TV lovers won’t want to miss out on the 80th Annual Golden Globe Awards on January 10, 2023. As well as celebrating extraordinary nominees and their remarkable achievements, attendees can expect to be wowed by a night full of incredible performances and stunning fashion.
