Apple TV+ has renewed the queer comedy and drama series “Dickinson” for season 2 in October 2019 before the season even begins in November.
I’ve been trying to find details about this second season since the announcement of the renewal, and today I have some excellent news!
The filming was able to take place before the coronavirus pandemic last November.
No details have leaked out so far, but the production of season 2 is nearly complete and sources say it could be released in September.
And we may also have the announcement of season 3.
In this new season, we will find the main characters we followed in season 1 alongside Emily Dickinson (Hailee Steinfeld) such as Edward (Toby Huss), Vinnie (Anna Baryshnikov), Jane (Emily Norcross) and Austin Dickinson (Adrian Blake Enscoe), as well as Sue Gilbert (Ella Hunt) but there should also be some new characters.
Season 2 will focus on Emily’s celebrity and explain why she did not publish her poems before her death.
We know her father was against it, but Emily also had a “deeply ambivalent relationship to fame”.
Also, in season two, the Civil War is imminent.
There will be mention of John Brown, an anti-slavery activist who, with a small army of 18 white and black men, attacked the federal arsenal at Harper’s Ferry in Virginia in October 1859, two years before the Civil War began.
This attack was one of the events that fuelled the fire between the northern and southern states.
The secession between these states began in December 1860, one month after the election of the anti-slavery activist Abraham Lincoln as the new President of the United States.
The Civil War officially began on April 12, 1861.
I’ll keep an eye on new details about Dickinson season 2. Stay tuned!
