It's official - the popular Netflix fantasy series, "Stranger Things," will end with its upcoming fifth season.
"Stranger Things" has undoubtedly become a cultural phenomenon, with its unique blend of nostalgia, horror, and science fiction. The show takes us on a wild ride through the small town of Hawkins, Indiana. We've encountered terrifying monsters, government conspiracies, and a group of young heroes who have stolen our hearts. As we prepare for the final season, it's nearly impossible not to feel emotional about saying goodbye to these characters that have become like family.
However, the show's creators have promised that they will give fans an unforgettable finale that will tie up all loose ends and leave us satisfied. We can't wait to see how they will bring this epic story to a close. Will Eleven finally find peace? Will Mike and Eleven end up together? What other dangers lurk in the Upside Down? These are just some of the burning questions that we hope will be answered in the final season.
From Eggo waffles to Demogorgons to Steve Harrington's iconic hairdo, "Stranger Things" has truly left its mark on pop culture.
The third season of “Stranger Things” was already packed with action, adventure, and suspense. The main plot revolved around a group of Russians who had built a machine capable of opening the door to the other world under Hawkins.
As the season progressed, the tension between the children and the adults reached a boiling point, with Hopper and Joyce determined to stop the Russians with the help of scientist Alexei and ex-journalist turned conspiracy theorist Murray Bauman.
However, it wasn’t just the main plot that had fans on the edge of their seats.
With its mix of ‘80s nostalgia, sci-fi thrills, and adolescent drama, “Stranger Things” has captured the imaginations of viewers around the world. However, it is the characters that really make the show shine. Each one is unique and complex, and they all undergo significant growth throughout the series. One character who has particularly won over fans is Robin Buckley, played by Maya Hawke.
Robin’s coming out scene in episode 7 of season 3 was certainly a touching moment. Maya Hawke did an excellent job of portraying the character’s vulnerability. It was clear that Robin was terrified of revealing her true self to Steve (Joe Keery), but she also knew that it was something she had to do. Her performance captured the hearts of viewers and helped to make the scene one of the most memorable moments of the season.
In season 4, we were thrilled to see Robin having a huge crush on her bandmate Vickie (Amybeth McNulty).
The final episode of “Stranger Things” season 3 was a cliffhanger. It left us with many questions and made us curious about what would happen next.
We were first introduced to the idea that the famous sheriff and Eleven’s adoptive father, Jim Hopper (David Harbour), died, sacrificing himself for his town when Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) was about to close the portal to the other world. But when season 4 starts, we find out that Sheriff Hopper is alive and well but a prisoner. The season 4 opener gives us a little idea of what’s been going on with Hopper since we last saw him.
The second highlight of the final episode was the departure of the Byers family and Eleven for California, and we wondered how season 4 would turn out. And when we meet the heroes of “Stranger Things” at the beginning of this new season, a lot has changed.
It’s been a few months since Eleven and the Byers traded Hawkins, Indiana, for the sunny beaches of California. Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) has been loving her new life here. The sun, the sand, the waves... she’s never been so happy. But as much as she’s enjoying her new home, she can’t help but miss Mike (Finn Wolfhard). She thinks about him all the time and can’t wait to see him again. So when spring break arrives, she’s more than ready to return to Hawkins and pick up where they left off.
While the actors of the series Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike Wheeler, and Gaten Matarazzo, who plays Dustin Henderson, had called season 4 “the scariest of the last three seasons,” or “the darkest of all,” I wonder what is in store for season 5.
It’s still too early to tell you anything about the plot. Just know that season 5 will indeed be the show’s final season. And while that may be a disappointment for fans of the series, it’s actually a good thing. The creators of “Stranger Things,” the Duffer brothers, Ross and Matt, have stated that they didn’t want to stretch the story beyond its natural limit. They believe that producing additional seasons would only result in uninspired episodes, which would only tarnish the legacy of the show. So although it’s bittersweet to see the series come to an end, you can take comfort in knowing that the show will go out on a high note.
One thing that will have marked season 4 of “Stranger Things” is the length of certain episodes. You might have noticed that some episodes were as long as films. In particular, episodes 7 and 9 lasted over two hours. Moreover, the last episode became the longest episode in the series’ history with its 2h19 runtime.
The Duffer brothers have never been in restraint developing the story of the characters. They also felt that longer episodes would sometimes be necessary to effectively deal with the many story arcs addressed in season 4. Note the episodes for the new season will return to a more normal length.
While it would be great to see the series continue beyond season 5, I think the Duffers are right to say that it would be to the detriment of this one.
“Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for Stranger Things,” they said. “At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons. It proved too large to tell in four, but—as you’ll see for yourselves—we are now hurtling toward our finale.”
I, for one, am excited to see what they have in store for us in the final season.
However, the end of “Stranger Things” as we know it does not necessarily mean that the series’ universe will come to an end. In fact, the show’s creators have said that they are open to the idea of spin-offs.
As for the airing date of this season 5, the first rumors mention the year 2024. So I will have the opportunity to talk about it again by then.
