The New Girl
After Ruby Rose left the series at the end of season 1, a replacement had to be found to play the superheroine and 33-year-old actress Javicia Leslie (God Friended Me) was chosen to take over.
She will make her debut as Ryan Wilder, the character who replaces Kate Kane aka Batwoman in this new season.
Tell Me She’s A Lesbian...
You’re probably wondering if this Ryan Wilder will be as lesbian as Kate Kane and what about the actress, aren’t you?
Rest assured, you won’t be disappointed!
Not only is actress Javicia Leslie openly bisexual, but her character, Ryan Wilder, is lesbian like her predecessor.
A beautiful black lesbian will now play Batwoman.
The Plot Of “Batwoman” Season 2
“Batwoman” season 2 will be an opportunity to learn more about what happened to Kate Kane while discovering Ryan Wilder, a woman described as “as nothing like Kate Kane,” being “likable, messy, a little goofy and untamed.” Ryan is said to fight in a way that is “highly skilled and wildly undisciplined.”
The official synopsis for this new season reads: “In a city desperate for a savior, Batwoman must first overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.”
Ryan Wilder will be led to find the superheroine suit left on the streets of Gotham City by the previous Batwoman.
Then the demonstrations of citizens calling for the return of their heroin should push her to put on the Batsuit that has been improved for the occasion and that you could see in episode 3 of season 2.
“I felt it was important that viewers could tell by the silhouette that Batwoman was a Black girl,” says series creator Caroline Dries about the brand new Batsuit.
“Ryan’s journey starts from a place of ‘What can this Batsuit do for me?’,” she continues. “But it’s not long before she realizes the power of its symbol and what it can do for everyone else in Gotham City.
“As Ryan embraces everything that makes her special, she adjusts the suit to fit her physically and figuratively. This meant creating a new body design and new cowl that was undeniably a statement that screamed ‘powerful.’
“Maya Mani sent me her drawings, and I loved it. The wig was something we never perfected in season one, and Janice Workman crushed it with this new take. Javicia and I saw various prototypes of styles and red ombres, and at one point we were trading our own iPad-doodled versions. Janice translated that into what we are looking at now.
“When I see it, I smile. It makes me feel inspired.”
