A Film That Breaks The Mold Of Coming-Out Stories

Coming-out stories are well-known in queer cinema, but in "Am I OK?," lesbian author Lauren Pomerantz (pictured above) offers a fresh and original perspective on the coming-out story. The film is personal and autobiographical, following Lauren on her journey to embracing her identity, alongside her closest friend Jessica Elbaum.

Unlike many other queer films that focus on the coming out process, "Am I OK?" takes a more introspective look at what it means to come out later in life. For Lucy, the process is not just about coming out to her friend, but also about learning to accept herself. The film is heartwarming and funny, and Pomerantz's writing is sharp and insightful.

What Do We Think About The Movie?

Lucy.

If you're in the mood for a charming romantic comedy, this is the movie for you!

It's not your typical Hollywood rom-com, but rather one with a much more authentic feel. Indeed, beneath the film's comedic surface is a raw emotion that is sure to touch your heart.

The directors have done a great job of creating a film that is both funny and heartwarming, and it's sure to appeal to those who enjoy stories that feel real.

The cast is also great. Dakota Johnson and Sonoyi Mizuno, who play the main characters, perfectly capture the chemistry that is necessary for a successful rom com.

“It’s a story and subject matter that I thought was really cool, in the shape of a female buddy comedy, but there're some very real and honest and difficult internal landscapes happening within these women,” Dakota Johnson, who plays lesbian character Lucy, told Variety.

The most striking scene in this film is, without a doubt, when Lucy tells Jane that she is gay. This was such an important and interesting development for her character, and I loved how they handled it. It was so important to see a character like Lucy come to terms with her sexuality, and I thought the scene did a great job of conveying both her apprehension and her eventual acceptance. Additionally, the scene was shot beautifully and the acting was superb. Overall, it was just a really powerful and moving scene.

Want To Watch “Am I OK?” So Do We!

Fans from all around the world are eagerly awaiting the release of "Am I OK?", which had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2022 and was acquired by Warner Bros Pictures and HBO Max.

At the time of the distribution rights acquisition, we all believed the film would be available within a year after its tour in festivals worldwide, as is typically the case with other films. However, the film's promotion strangely came to an immediate halt, leaving us without any updates since then. This lack of information raises questions about why the distribution rights were acquired in the first place.

Now, over a year and a half has passed since the film's premiere, and there is still no announcement regarding its official release date. Warner Bros Pictures and HBO Max have not communicated any information, not even a teaser, to sustain the our enthusiasm. I know you're wondering when you will finally be able to watch this movie. I do too. For now, the situation remains unclear, but we will keep an eye on this. Hopefully, the movie will be released one day.

My guess is the timing has been impacted by the merger of Max's owner WarnerMedia with Discovery.

Definitely! This merger could be a reason for the big delay.
