Karine Jean-Pierre took over as Chief of Staff for Vice President Kamala Harris after President Joe Biden was declared the 46th President of the United States.
One month after the U.S. presidential election, and after four years of anti-LGBTQ policies, our community’s representation in politics is back on track as Karine Jean-Pierre, a 43-year-old black lesbian woman who led Harris’s campaign, has been appointed Chief of Staff to the Vice President.
This is a prestigious position for this woman born in Martinique (a French overseas territory) to Haitian immigrant parents who arrived in New York at 5 and has been working for twelve years with politicians.
Jean-Pierre began her career in 2007 by participating in John Edwards’ Democratic primary campaign before becoming involved with Barack Obama as regional director.
She then followed Obama to the White House where she became a political advisor and “the eyes and ears of the President in twelve states in the Northeast, from Maryland to Maine”.
After a stint at MoveOn as national spokesperson during the Trump years, Joe Biden called on Karine Jean-Pierre in Spring 2020 to join his campaign team.
With her talent as a strategist, Jean-Pierre also leads the campaign of Kamala Harris.
Like the Vice President, Karine Jean-Pierre sends a very positive message of success for little girls around the world, and also a powerful one for the LGBTQ community.
